Exchange Rates
The Exchange Rates module manages the foreign exchange rates used throughout Point for portfolio valuation, performance calculation, and reporting.
Why Exchange Rates Matter
Every portfolio has a base currency. When a portfolio holds securities in other currencies, Point uses FX rates to convert those values into the base currency. Accurate, up-to-date FX rates are essential for:
- Correct portfolio valuations
- Accurate performance calculations
- Consistent reporting across currencies
Viewing Exchange Rates
Navigate to Exchange Rate in the left sidebar.
The exchange rate table shows:
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Currency Pair | e.g., GBP/USD, EUR/GBP |
| Rate | The exchange rate |
| Date | The date the rate applies to |
| Source | Where the rate came from |
| Type | Spot, WM/Reuters Fix, ECB Fix |
Rate Sources
Point can receive FX rates from multiple sources:
| Source | Description |
|---|---|
| WM/Reuters 4pm Fix | The standard benchmark rate used by most investment managers |
| ECB Reference Rate | European Central Bank daily reference rates |
| Bloomberg | Real-time and end-of-day rates from Bloomberg |
| Manual Entry | Rates entered manually by your team |
Your administrator configures which sources are used and their priority order.

To view historical rates for a currency pair:
- Select the currency pair from the dropdown

Missing Rates
If Point cannot find a rate for a required currency pair on a given date, it will flag a Missing FX Rate exception in Data Quality. This will prevent the affected portfolios from being valued on that date.
To resolve:
- Go to Data Quality → Exceptions
- Filter by Missing FX Rate
- Enter the missing rate manually or investigate the feed issue
